OTUN EKITI DAY - All the Cultural display and most interesting moments

The mysterious basket filled with water 

OTUN EKITI DAY is popularly referred to as OTUN DAY/ ASA DAY is being celebrated yearly in OTUN EKITI, Moba Local Governement of Ekiti State, Nigeria. As it is believed that the history of OTUN EKITI will not completed without the inclusion of the story of its great ancestor - the mighty warrior Oore of Otun-Ekiti.

According to history, Oore became the first Okun Moba (which simply means - the sea's MOBA) in Lagos, crowned with beaded crown, his neck filled with different kinds of beads and a calabash filled with water in his hand. Oore has gone wide and far, settling in different places before he finally settled 40 decades ago at his present location in Moba Local Government, Ekiti State Nigeria.

The history that led to the inception of the OTUN Day was when he arrived at Ile-Ife (the base of Yorubaland) Oduduwa who was then, the father of Yoruba went blind and all efforts to recover his sight was to no avail. It was the water Oore brought from Okun Moba that eventually restored Oduduwa's sight.

The image above shows one of the amazing cultural myth of OTUN DAY. Amazing? It's unbelievable and totally impossible for liquid substance to be placed in a basket and couldn't leak out. This is one of the reasons why OTUN Day is one of the interesting cultural display moment in West Africa.
